One Last Chance

Have you heard the news?  Of course you have – it’s all anyone is talking about.  Electrical storms are going to wipe out the Internet – possibly forever.  Unless you all send me some self-addressed, stamped envelopes this post might be my last chance to share my passions with you.

My blog is just a few months old and yet our time together is almost at an end.  I want to use these last few minutes we have together to share the things I think are important in this life.

You have to get out there and build strong relationships.  Spend time really getting to know your parents, spouse, children, friends, neighbors, church family, the clerk at the grocery store…you get the point.  We spend way too much time parked in front of the television or the computer these days and that causes us to miss out on getting to know the people with whom we share our corner of the world.  When was the last time you had a deep conversation with one of your children?  I don’t care how old your children are – whatever their age, they have something wonderful to tell you.  You just have to listen.  What about your neighbors?  If you are like most of us, I’ll bet you don’t even know the name of the person who lives right next door to you.  Change that.  Start today.  Bake cookies for an elderly neighbor, mow the yard for a single mom who lives on your street, or just strike up a conversation with your next door neighbor the next time you are both checking the mail.

Now…get off the computer and start working on those relationships!

—Okay…the Internet really isn’t going to be taken down by electrical storms in the near future.  At least, I don’t think so.  This blog post is my entry in the BlogHer ’10 Contest sponsored by Mabel’s Labels.  Would you like to blog for Mabel’s Labels for a year AND attend the BlogHer ’10 conference in New York City this May?  Visit the Mabel’s Labels website to learn more about the contest.  But do it quick – the contest ends March 15!!
